Design & Branding for UCLA ACM

Overview

ACM at UCLA is the biggest computer science organization at UCLA with 8 branches and hundreds of members. From October 2017 to June 2018, I was one of the organization’s five designers and helped create assets for a myriad of purposes. I am extremely grateful for this experience for not only helping me improve many of my visual design skills, and learning how to design for web and mobile.

Below are some of my biggest projects.

ACM Hack Website

I worked with ACM Hack’s president to develop a new website for this branch. This website was never fully implemented and shipped, as all branches of ACM decided to use Facebook for greater reach. Still, I’m glad I learned how to design a portfolio-based website.

Founder's School

I worked with fellow designer Arpi Beshlikyan to create assets for Founder’s School, UCLA’s annual entrepreneurship conference. We were given the theme “Impact” by the event coordinators. We chose to illustrate the theme through the concept of the "butterfly effect" -- the idea that small actions can have large impacts.

TeachLA

Now a new branch of ACM, TeachLA was a new subcommittee when I first started working on its branding and assets. For this project, I worked with fellow designer Christine Chen. This experience was my first time designing a logo, and I really enjoyed this challenge. I had a lot of different ideas, but ultimately went with the simple plant bud. We thought it represented the mission of TeachLA the best and would scale well. Below are iterations of the logo and the final committee banner.

Distinguished Speaker Series

Hosted by ACM-W, a branch of ACM that focuses on empowering women in tech, the Distinguished Speaker Series was a slew of talks that distinguished women in tech gave at UCLA. I designed the following banners for three speakers.
